We are Automation Partners

Full Lifecyce Development

KIS Solutions and its’ sister company, Control Automation Services, has been partnered together for over a decade in various forms to provide Electrical and Automation services for a variety of PLC- and VFD- controlled machinery and instrumentation systems.

Our backgrounds range from the bottom-up through the ranks of Commercial electrical services, and the top-down through Computer Science and Semiconductor know-how. The majority of our work has been in the Offshore Sector (MODUs, Jackups, Drillships), but we can also show a portfolio in Manufacturing and O&G/Chemical Plants.

KIS’ experience is broad enough to carry automation projects through the entire Product Life Cycle – Bidding, PM, Electrical Design, Console Design, Programming, Commissioning, Maintenance, Retrofit.

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE
Our programming styles are based upon the evolving open Industrial Standards and we can apply solid techniques from Computer Science to build sophisticated and robust solutions to problems such as redundancy, master-follower, and complex derivative calculations.

We do not follow a system of compartmentalized programming and reactive design efforts. Rather, we rely upon a dual understanding of the finer details in programming structures, mechanical motion, and serviceability to act as a proactive part of any mechanical design team to ensure that a system is purpose-built to be automated most efficiently.

We maintain a focus on serviceability: the correct instrumentation, function blocks and HMI features to provide Managers and Servicemen with useful calibration and troubleshooting tools. We are working on building blocks and tools for predictive maintenance on rotating and repetitive equipment.

The KIS project management system extends to our Automation department as well as Engineering. Regardless of the time zone and distance, our teams directly communicate with real-time and collaborative access to project information, issue discussions and tools. We are set up to minimize the overhead associated with trying to communicate programming bugs, redlines and tasks through email and phone calls, providing more stable production in remote environments.

Specific Technologies

PLC Systems: SIEMENS S7 & S400; A-B CONTROLLOGIX/GUARDLOGIX; GE FANUC RX3I

VFD Systems: SIEMENS G/S; A-B SERVO DRIVES; ABB ACS SERIES

HMI Systems: GE CIMPLICITY; SIEMENS WINCC, A-B FACTORYTALK, WONDERWARE ARCHESTRA, MATLAB

Networking Protocols: PROFIBUS/PROFINET, MODBUS TCP/RTU, TOKEN-BASED SYSTEMS, TCP/UDP, WWW & HIGH LEVEL PROTOCOLS

Although we can demonstrate specific knowledge on a handful of systems, we are trained experts with a deep knowledge of machine-level coding and System Architecture. We can easily shift practical technologies for a new or existing project when needed.

Industrial & Offshore Equipment

mechanical-engineering-square
The majority of our work since the mid-2000’s has focused on the modernization of equipment throughout the Offshore Oil and Gas (O&G) Industry. We have been working with OEMs and subcontractors providing full life cycle services for various lifting equipment, such as Cranes, Winches, Jack-screws, Piping/BOP Transporters.

Aside from lifting device projects we have some specific skills which have led us to numerous projects with bulk material monitoring, load monitoring systems and redundant High-Pressure pumping stations.

One of our current focuses is in retrofitting of aging hydraulic equipment with updated instrumentation and controls. The onslaught of new regulations and attention to finances does not require critical capital machinery to be scrapped. There are many cases where the life of mechanical components can be extended with a swap in technologies or primary drivers from Hydraulic to Electric or pneumatic. We can design new consoles, add preventive logic, retrofit new load/position sensing, instrumentation and camera systems as well as build state of the art HMI networks for streamlining maintenance activities.

We are your Offshore Design+Build or Design+Bid Automation Partner

Partnerships in the unstable world of O&G is generally safer than building in-house outfits for new machinery lines. Contact us if you are an OEM looking for a long term partner to help modernize or expand your existing mechanical or hydraulic systems.

Building Automation

We are currently looking for opportunities to help us build a portfolio of Building Automation projects. We have technicians certified in Niagara 4/AX and highly familiar with OPC and its’ related technologies such as Modbus, TCP/IP and BACnet. But we offer more than this, as we are familiar with VFDs, pumping systems and networked HMI interfaces.

We are currently focusing our marketing on those lower-mid tier projects which might be out of scope for a small contractor outfit, but not competitive enough for larger controls firms. Alongside our MEP Mechanical teams, we can handle the commissioning and configuration of your BAS Network components and HVAC integration. Contact us if you have a new or retrofit project needing a solid set of controls that won’t break the bank. Let us build our portfolio with you!
